Breeding plan development

It is essential to develop a breeding plan before conducting a multi-cycle molecular breeding project. Depending on the nature of the experiment, such a plan may be quite simple or very elaborate, from the transfer of a single region (eg transgene) to complex selection that can consider the simultaneous transfer of dozens of regions. The plan must detail all the activities over time, with a cost-benefit analysis to determine if it is worthwhile conducting the experiment.

An appropriate tool is under development to assist researchers/breeders with breeding plan development. For more information contact Mark Sawkins or Chunlin He. Information on various breeding schemes is available at breeding schemes.
