IBP Genotyping Service Client Support

The IBP Genotyping Service provides the link with the genotyping laboratories, templates to request services, and guidance on relevant policies for DNA/germplasm exchange. The Platform does not however take on any legal responsibility regarding the choice of service provider by users, only facilitating bilateral contracts. An IBP client who wishes to access genotyping services through the Platform follows the following procedure:

  1. They must first enter into a Genotyping Service Request Agreement (GSRA) with the Generation Challenge Programme as represented by its host agent CIMMYT. The GSRA contains the terms and conditions under which the services are provided, and also authorizes the IBP to find the ideal suppliers for the genotyping services requested. The duly executed agreement is sent to Chunlin He to commence the process. Download the GSRA.
  2. If the genotyping is being done at BecA, a material transfer agreement (MTA) is mandatory prior to the processing of the Work Order. Under the MTA, BecA and the client each accept their share of responsibility regarding the use and safekeeping of both the genetic materials transferred and the resulting data. By agreement between them and the IBP, the MTA is optional when dealing with the other service providers to simplify and expedite service provision. Download the MTA.
  3. Finally, a Work Order (WO) is prepared. The WO documents each genotyping task requested. It binds the service provider/laboratory and the IBP representing the client. The WO is the primary legal document authorising financial and administrative actions for the execution of the genotyping tasks requested. The client can now ship the materials to the service provider for the requisite work. Download a representative WO.
The IBP staff follow-up with the service provider to ensure the work is done to the requisite standard and within the time agreed, and keep the client informed.
