Trait and metabolite service

Analyses of certain secondary traits or metabolites that are indicative of plant stress tolerance can potentially provide valuable information to be used in breeding. Such analyses are generally prohibitively expensive if done locally, as it is difficult to maintain assay quality and devote the necessary resources for expertise, quality control and specialised facilities.

This page provides users with information on laboratories specialised in the evaluation and analysis of specific traits, such as quality traits, pathology screening or metabolite quantification. Users can access the service providers directly via the contacts provided below. For more information contact Chunlin He.

Applied Biomics, Inc.

Applied Biomics, Inc. provides top-quality, cost-effective and full-line proteomics services to meet diverse customers' research and discovery needs.

The services at this provider cover both major platforms of proteomics: gel-based 2D DIGE (2-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis) and liquid-based iTRAQ® (isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation). Its proteomics services start from experimental design, sample preparations, protein separations/quantifications, protein identifications to the creation of publication-ready data as well as the 2D DIGE / iTRAQ® platforms for quantitating the changes in global protein expressions.

The service procedures include, but are not limited to:

1) experimental design
2) customized sample preparation and protein concentration determination (2 samples for 2 CyDye labeling;3 samples for 3 CyDye labeling)
3) fluorescence dye labeling using CyDye
4) 1st dimension IEF and 2nd dimension SDS-PAGE
5) gel image scan using Typhoon scanner
6) In-gel analysis: Image analysis (ImageQuant) & Quantitative analysis of up to 30 spots (DeCyder 2D software)
7) Cross-gel analysis: Image analysis (ImageQuant) & Quantitative analysis of up to 30 spots, 2 comparisons for every 3 gels (DeCyder 2D software)
8) Data report

The Plant Accelerator®

The Plant Accelerator® at The University of Adelaide, Australia provides the facility to increase the speed and scale of plant physiological measurements and to address the phenotyping bottleneck that is restricting the flow-through of genomics advances into improvements in crop performance. The facility carries out projects with large populations of plants and facilitates the genetic studies to identify the molecular basis of complex physiological traits. It also provides a better understanding of how environmental components, both natural and artificial, affect plant growth and performance.

Metabolon

Metabolon is involved in plant metabolism and metabolic network analysis, optimization of crop trait development (yield, quality, stress tolerance, etc.). It offers a metabolomics-driven biochemical profiling platform through its mView™ services. The patented platform provides a global analysis of complex biological samples for the discovery of markers and pathways associated with traits of interest.

This service is undertaken to understand the biochemical changes in a complex biological system by comparing relative changes in biochemical concentrations between control and treated groups. The study involves analyzing hundreds of biochemicals in a sample, detecting amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, cofactors, nucleosides and other biochemicals.
